Remember with the arrival of long days of sunlight the weekday rides will now meet at 5:45 pm and leave at 6:00 pm. New Sunday Tune Up Rides added to the calendar (June 7 and 14 then resuming in July). Meet at Amantes North Boulder at 8:30 am (earlier if you want to fuel up on some espresso) This is a tune-up ride for those of us trying to get in shape for some of the longer rides of the summer. Route to be determined morning of the ride. Average 30 to 40 miles with some hill climbing.Riding time approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Cherryvale Bridge Re-Opening Ride! Maragrita Ride back!

I feel like the kids in my neighborhood that have been watching the construction of the new park throughout the winter months and now that it’s almost open are just bubbling with excitement! The Cherryvale Bridge officially opened last Friday making our route out to Eldo that much more enjoyable and pleasurable. Join us Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 at Boulder Beer for a ride out to Eldo Springs and have bragging rights to crossing the bridge before any of your friends do! With the sudden summer weather the liquid refreshment enjoyed after the ride on the back patio should taste that much better!

Remember we still are riding on Thursday afternoon also. Last week we did the Jamestown Loop and everyone enjoyed the downhill part of it. This week we’ll head north and do a “flats loop” out into the very green countryside. Afterwards we meet up at Restaurant 4580 for more liquid refreshments (not to mention some killer ‘pomme fries’.

Speaking of refreshments, our faithful leader Steve is back in town from his work related travels and is ready to lead out the Margarita ride on Thursday night leaving from Serranos Restaurant in Gunbarrel. This is mountain/hybrid bike oriented casual ride on dirt roads and gravel trails throughout the Gunbarrel and surrounding areas. Route varies weekly. Afterward meet up at Serrano’s for a marg on their patio!The ride kicks off at 5:30 in Serrano’s parking lot.

Thanks for all those that stepped up and volunteered for the Wheelchair Support Team for the Bolder Boulder! Have fun riding your bikes in the road race for a good cause!

Bike safety law to take effect Aug. 5!

Bicycle Safety Bill PASSES- On to Governor

The Colorado House and Senate passed the Bicycle Safety Bill (Senate Bill 148) on Monday, April 27. ” The bill now goes to the Governor for signing and may go into effect Aug. 4. Both the Colorado House and Senate gave final approval to Senate Bill 148 after accepting a change made by a Conference Committee. The Committee revised the bill’s two abreast language to say that bicyclists may ride two abreast as long as they are not impeding the normal and reasonable movement of traffic. The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk for his signature!

Sun Returns, Boulder Beer Benefit, Marg Ride Tonight!

The weather predictions seem to be more promising this week so let’s get out there and ride!The Margarita Ride returns this week with Steve, our favorite Gator, as the Ride Leader. On a side note there will be a fund raiser this Sunday the 26th at Boulder Beer to raise money for Steve’s daughter Kelsey who is preparing for a third attempt at a possible kidney transplant this summer at the Mayo clinic. See below for more.

As the number of cyclists continues to grow on each ride we will be establishing 2 groups in the future based a slower group averaging 12 to 14 mph and a faster group averaging 15 to 18 mph to better accommodate the different levels within the group.Thursday Night’s Road Bike ride is also on this week and we hope to head up to Jamestown and back. COLORADO SPRINGS BIKE CLUB COMES TO BOULDER

Our brethren at the Colorado Springs Bike Club are coming to town to try a Boulder ride this Sunday! So any who are interested in welcoming them to the cycling capital of the world can join them at Scott Carpenter Park (1505 30th street) at 9 a.m. on Sunday April 26th. This is 75 mile ride, intermediate ride with elevation ~ 5780 ft, and great hill climbing, flats and rolling terrain in beautiful Boulder.

KIDNEY FOR KELSEY PARTY - THIS SUNDAY!

Family, friends and the wonderful folks at Boulder Beer Co. are throwing a 2nd annual party and silent auction for Kelsey Crider, a 19 year Boulder girl who suffers from a life threatening disease of her kidneys. Kelsey is the daughter of our MArgarita ride leader and club member Steve Crider. Kelsey has gone through seven surgeries and two kidney transplants over the last two years, and is currently on dialysis three times per week. She is now facing transplant number three at Mayo Clinic in MN this summer IF a living donor can be found that is a good match and is willing and able. Click here for more!

Winter Weather & Spring Rides

The crazy winter like weather we've been experiencing here in Boulder for the last 3 weeks or so has really thrown the early cycling season into a tizzy!
Here it's April 18th and I look out my window at a blanket of snow on the ground!!!  ( See photo) The Boulder Cycling Club has had to cancel numerous rides in the last 3 weeks because of cold and or wet weather conditions. Of course, being this late in the season we know it can't last much longer and predictions of warm sunny weather and the return of blue skies within a few days help us persevere through these inclement days. I guess it's off to the spin class today!
We look forward to seeing you out there on the rides with us in the upcoming spring season of riding. It's days like this that really make you appreciate life in the foothills and have you dreaming of the warm summer months just over the horizon.

The season is warming up and lots of activities are rolling out! This week marks the return of the famous Margarita Ride, The Community Cycles Commuter Bike Sale, and the Semi-Annual GoLite Warehouse Clearance sale

Bicycle Safety Bill Passes House!

from Bicycle Colorado: “Bicycle Safety Bill Keeps Rolling - Extra Step May Need Your Action…”

Senate Bill 148, the Bicycle Safety Bill, passed another hurdle on Monday when it was approved by the Colorado House in a vote of 51 to 13. The bill now has 24 bipartisan co-sponsors out of 100 legislators! Bicycle Colorado thanks everyone around the state who took time to make a call or send an email to their representative. Your efforts made a huge difference as this bill’s chances looked dim under a well-funded attack from opponents. After considering amendments made in the House, the Senate on Wednesday sent the bill to a conference committee to work out the differences.

Our efforts defended against many opposition amendments in the House, but one puzzling amendment did pass. This amendment would prohibit bicyclists from passing each other on state highways with lanes less than 12 feet wide. Bicycle Colorado realizes this doesn’t make sense and will continue to work with legislators to improve the bill for the Governor’s signature.

We respectfully ask bill supporters to be ready to weigh in one last time to change this confusing language. Because we often receive only one or two days’ notice before a vote, be sure to sign up for eNews and special alerts. Together we can make positive changes to how bicyclists are treated on Colorado’s roads.
