“Res” Sunset Ride 9/27/07
Sep 28th, 2007 | By Donald Cicchillo | Category: Ride InformationI don’t think I could ever tire of the Res Sunset Ride. One thing for sure the sun is setting much earlier over the mtns now! While there are many versions and “extensions” of this ride last night because of time restraints we just did the basic loop. Starting in the parking lot of Serrano’s in Gunbarrel (yes, the one and only location for Margarita Night Rides!) we head north out 63rd to the dirt track on the top of the hill that takes you out to the back of the Res. We looped around clockwise and marveled at those brave folks still out there water skiing! Once you exit the entrance to the Res bare to the right and follow the dirt road. About a half a mile down is the entrance to the Eagle Trailhead which is a great extension loop from this ride adding about 2 or 3 miles. Heading on we past the mini airplane airport. Shortly after that you hit another parking area and this puts you back on a single track heading back. If you wanted to extend even more go straight through at this point and that will take you out to a connecting road that with a little zig zagging gets you to a dirt road heading north which will take you all the way out to Nelson Rd. Otherwise stay on this trail till it circles back around to the dam and cross over and end up where you started. Riding on the dam is one of the best views and as the sun set into the mtns taking it in from this vantage point was once again awe inspiring. Maybe it’s the relative lack of water here I’m not sure but to have a large body of water to watch the sun set into is somehow soothing. For more info email me through the website. Donald
